News Sept 2009
Work is continuing on the old rail headquarters in Station Rise on a £10 million restoration project. Workmen have spent recent months ripping out the old fixtures and fittings at the 1906 landmark, and starting work on luxurious new bedrooms, bathrooms, function rooms, restaurants and bars. The hotel firm has also completed two mock-up demonstration rooms, to help refine its plans. Cedar Court is confident the new hotel will get five-star status.

“ It’s all about luxurious bathrooms and bedrooms and all about quality of service. It’s also about size and space – you need to have 40 square metres to a room.. - John Horvath, group general manager.

He said he had worked on numerous hotels, but none as exciting as Station Rise, as no two rooms there would be the same. Old rail worker's offices are being carefully converted, with the building’s distinctive architecture carefully retained. The building is Grade II Listed, meaning many of its original features will be kept, including old safe-vault doors, fireplaces and window frames.

  • The hotel will have 107 rooms
  • Spa, swimming pool, gym and Jacuzzi
  • Open air roof garden, accessible from the main bar.
  • £10 million restoration.
  • Architects: Mackenzie Wheeler.
